Vivendi Games Mobile was one of the last giants to enter the mobile
games industry, and though the latest merger made it potentially the
biggest, the unit might be sold of…
This news comes directly from Mobile Entertainment Magazine. According to the website, the unit will be re-aligned or divested. We agree with ME that it might be the last option. Activision-Blizzard said: "The company also is evaluating options regarding two non-strategic business units Vivendi Games Mobile and Sierra Online... including the possibility of divesting these business units."
At first sight, Activision doesn’t really have a track record in developing and publishing mobile games. True, but it has had huge success in licensing out its brands for a long time. In that sense, Activision has a longer track record then Vivendi.
Is there another option? Sure. Vivendi could also choose to use another publisher for its products. A strategy used by companies like Codemasters and Konami who are piggybacking on Glu. One of the big problems for Vivendi has always been the lack of quality direct deals with operators. But in reality we don’t expect this situation likely.
