Mobile Games Market Valued $ 6 Bln by 2011
With Juniper's research posted about a week ago, now Understanding & Solutions reveals their vision on the mobile games market. They expect it to be worth $6 billion by 2011, which is considerably less then the $ 17.6 billion from Juniper.
The value of the mobile gaming market is placed directly after that of online games, according to Understanding & Solutions analyst David Rouse.
“Global revenues from mobile gaming are pegged at $3.6Bn this year,” says Understanding & Solutions Analyst, David Rouse, “and we predict this figure to rise to $6.0bn by 2011. Although not seen as the killer application for mobile, games are increasingly important as the market continues to see major growth. Subscription based and ad-funded models are on the rise,” continues Rouse, “and micro-transactions - the acquisition of additional levels or virtual goods during game play – are also beginning to play a part. However, pay per download is still the most significant revenue generator across all regions.”
Demographics
In China and India, mobile game sales are driven by the uptake in mobile phone purchases. Because of the overall low prices in the region (excl. Korea and Japan), the territory will still bring in less then 10% of the global revenues by 2011.
