Twistbox acquires InfoSpace Games US
Wednesday, 24 January 2007
Rumors stated it for a long time, but finally the acquisition of InfoSpace Games US (also known as the Atlas Mobile Studio) is official. The new parents are Twistbox. The UK studio (IOMO Mobile) is still under negotiation, but that deal is also expected to follow shortly. The studio will report directly to Twistbox Games in Germany. Interesting detail is the fact that infoSpace used to have a German studio as well (Elkware) which closed around the time they lost the Cingular deal.
“This acquisition is a perfect fit for our value added mobile game strategy, and complimentary to our existing titles and on-deck distribution in over 40 countries,” stated Twistbox CEO, Ian Aaron. “By integrating Play for Prizes into our current RapidPort™ development and porting platform, we will be able to accelerate the delivery of new games to market, provide broad handset support, and bring our carrier and content partners new and innovative ways to reach and retain customers.”
The first games will roll out of the studio in a very short time as the first three games are about to be finished. Three other games are expected soon. The deal also seems to involve party the back catalogue of InfoSpace games as Twistbox will distribute the popular “for prices” games series.
